Autograph letter from Giacomo Gonzaga to Francesco Venturini
The letter, written in Italian in a clear hand in brown ink, is addressed by Giacomo Gonzaga in Larnaca to Francesco Venturini in Livorno. The endorsement reads ‘Il Sig. Francesco Venturini Livorno con N.e Fior di Lino’. Gonzaga sent the letter to Venturini by the ship Fior di Lino. The letter informs Venturini that Gonzaga has not received his letters, recommends himself (Gonzaga) for employment once again to Venturini and hopes to be able to help him in whatever commands he requests.
Nothing seems to be known of Giacomo Gonzaga; he must have been a merchant in Larnaca, or at least a hanger-on of merchants. Venturini was a merchant and banker established in Livorno with extensive business interests all over Europe. Microfilm copies of his extensive correspondence have been preserved in the National Archives in London.
