Autograph letter of Samuel White Baker, addressed to Sir Edward Kerrison.
A very interesting letter from Samuel White Baker, written to his friend Sir Edward Kerrison. As Baker says, he visited Cyprus determined to see all of the island in order “to form an opinion worth expression”. He criticizes William Hepworth Dixon, who “was only ten days in this island! and he had the audacity to write a book!” Incorporated in the letter is a sketch map of the island. Baker states that the topography of the island varies immensely according to its several districts, and he divides the island into three general areas. And he goes on to describe in detail each of these areas. Baker went on to write his own work on Cyprus, published at the end of 1879.
