Voyage Performed By The Late Earl Of Sandwich ...
First edition, published posthumously and edited by Montagu’s chaplain John Cooke, who was not present on the journey. Montagu went on the Grand Tour in 1737, but he extended the normal tour to include a cruise in the Mediterranean in 1738. This work was published long after the journey described in its pages. It is supposed to be edited from the journal kept by Montagu during the voyage, but the style and nature of the text suggests that Cooke imposed his own ideas on Montagu’s narrative.
