Περιγραφή

There seem to be no later Italian editions, although an enlarged French version appeared in 1580. Apparently the work was composed in 1568. Sometimes a folding table depicting the Lusignan genealogical tree is found bound in.
This description of Cyprus was written by Steffano Lusignano, who claimed to be a descendant of the royal family of Lusignan. Lusignano was born in Cyprus; he joined the Dominican Order and spent ten years in Paris, eventually retiring to Rome. In 1578 he was elected titular Bishop of Limassol by Pope Sixtus V. This is the first of his four works on Cyprus and the only one in Italian. It is of particular importance for the knowledge it displays concerning the new fortifications constructed by the Venetians in Nicosia, with a woodcut on leaf 16 of the new fortress with its eleven bastions. Lusignano also wrote a number of theological works.
