Περιγραφή

First Ulm edition, based directly on a manuscript of Ptolemy’s Geographia by the cartographer Donnus (or Dominus) Nicolaus Germanus, a Benedictine monk from the diocese of Breslau. His manuscript of the Geographia is based on the Latin translation by Jacopo d’Angelo. He presented the Ptolemy manuscript to Pope Paul II around 1471, and it was later taken to Ulm to be used to produce this edition. The Ulm Ptolemy was the first atlas to be printed outside Italy. This is a splendid copy of one of the most ambitious projects in the history of early printing.
