Numerous editions of Villamont’s travels were published. The reason for the popularity of this work is a mystery. Villamont left for the East in 1588 – leaving Venice for Cyprus, Syria and Egypt and returning to Venice from Alexandria in 1590. Book 2 begins with the roads from Rome to Naples. Book 3 begins with a glossary of Turco-Arabic words. The text on Cyprus is in book 2, leaves 36-42.
