This is one of the few accounts in English of the War of Cyprus. The map is based on Ortelius’ map of Cyprus, first published in 1573, and appears only in the English edition. The engraved title, by John Sturt, depicts the goddess Aphrodite, patroness of Cyprus, with Eros at her side, gazing at the advance of the Ottoman cavalry.
