Much of the material in this work was first published in articles in the New Monthly Magazine, but the letters from Greece first appear in this edition. Carne’s travels took place in 1821. His account of Cyprus is in letters 22 and 23, on pp. 436-469. Letter 22 covers the main visit, while in letter 23 the author left the island after visiting Idalium.
