Special provisions regarding the awarding of scholarships

Ι. If the application is approved, the scholarship commences once all required documents are submitted.

ΙΙ. The signing of a contract between the awardee and the Foundation outlining their obligations to the Foundation is a prerequisite for the awarding of a scholarship.

ΙΙΙ. The amount of the scholarship will be deposited in a bank account in the name of the awardee, which must be kept in a recognized credit institution of his place of permanent residence and he will indicate in writing to the Foundation. The amount will be paid in installments per academic period (semester, quarter, or other, depending on the course of study at the selected University), and presupposes the awardee’s obligation to provide:

  • evidence of academic achievement at a "B or better" level or an equivalent grade in case of a different grading system; and
  • a certificate of attendance

In cases requiring advance payment of tuition at the beginning of the academic year, a relevant certificate from the selected University is required. The one-off payment of tuition fees will be considered on a case by case basis.

IV. Any fees, deductions, or any other charge for accepting the scholarship will be borne by each individual beneficiary.

V. Upon completion of their studies at the selected University, scholars should submit to the Sylvia Ioannou Foundation Scholarship Secretariat (at scholarships@sylviaioannoufoundation.org) in due time, a copy of their diploma and dissertation/thesis. They are also expected to present their work during or after completion of their studies, at the invitation of the Foundation.

VI. The scholarship may be extended for more than one year, provided that the scholar has submitted at least twenty (20) days before the end of the current Academic year a request for renewal, and a progress report by the selected University, showing clearly and in detail the awardee's performance in their studies.

Evaluation process and results

Ι. The Review Committee of the Sylvia Ioannou Foundation recommends, at its own discretion, to the Board of Directors of the Foundation the applicant(s) selected to be granted a scholarship.

II. In case of equal academic qualifications, priority is given to candidates with more limited financial means.

III. The Review Committee reserves the right to request a personal interview with the applicant(s), if deemed necessary.

IV. The Board of Directors of the Sylvia Ioannou Foundation is responsible for the final decision and selection of awardees. The Board of Directors of the Foundation shall decide, at its own discretion, whether or not to award a scholarship and is not obliged to explain or justify the outcome of the applications' evaluation process.

V. The results of the evaluation process will be communicated to all applicants individually and in writing, by letter to be sent by e-mail by the end of July 2024. No information will be given by phone.
