3rd International Conference
2-4 November 2016
University of Cyprus, Nicosia
The 3rd International Scientific Conference of the Sylvia Ioannou Foundation, entitled "Knowledge is Power" held on 2-4 November 2016 in Nicosia, in collaboration with the University of Cyprus.
Τhe aim of the Conference was to explore the historical dimensions and itineraries of knowledge reposited in books and maps, embarking from the sphere of private initiatives in knowledge codification and advancing to issues that regard its public diffusion for the benefit of the academic community, as well as the broader public. The thematic sections were:
The achievements of important European and American libraries and the challenges and prospects of different models of Open Libraries, were investigated through expert presentations and discussions. On the other hand, talks based on unpublished manuscript cartographic materials (both Western and Ottoman) from the Sylvia Ioannou Foundation collection will highlight the multifaceted nature and function of another, more compact type of repositories of knowledge and power: that maps and power.
