The Sylvia Ioannou Foundation, with its focus on Digital Humanities, specialises in the digitisation of rare documents from its Collection about Cyprus and the wider Eastern Mediterranean region, dating from the 15th to the 20th century. With the objective of providing open access to knowledge and supporting scientific research, rare books and maps are available through the Digital Library, which now contains 100,000 digitised pages.
The Digital Library includes historical and travel texts, maps, engravings and manuscripts, all digitised in high resolution and accompanied by bibliographic information.
In collaboration with scientific and academic institutions, items from the Foundation’s Collection are used to develop online applications that are freely accessible to the public and can be reached easily via the related links provided by the Digital Library.
The Foundation remains committed to the continuous enrichment of the Digital Library. Researchers may submit requests to the Foundation to use materials from the Collection for their research activities.
