Description

Little is known of Francis Venables Vernon. He is not to be confused with the 17th-century traveller Francis Vernon, who was probably a family connection. In 1777 Vernon joined the British navy as a midshipman. His Voyages is mostly an account of his experiences as a naval officer aboard ship. Vernon’s account of his stay in Cyprus occupies pp. 139-146.
