Little is known of Vergoncey, apart from the information given in his book. He was a member of the household of King Louis XIII, who was about ten years old at the time of Vergoncey’s pilgrimage. Although he does not give the date of his journey, it must have taken place between 1610. He visited Cyprus on his way to Constantinople and probably did not stay longer than a few days.
