Description

During his embassy (1699-1710) to the Porte, Ferriol hired the Dutch artist J. B. van Mour to paint a series of costumes depicting the 14 ‘nations’ or different groups of people who formed part of the Ottoman Empire. The Recueil is probably the most influential Levantine costume book of the 18th century.
