Description

This is a lively account of the author’s travels through the Middle East to India via Syria and Cyprus, from 1672 to 1674. The section on Cyprus begins on p. 387 in vol. 1. Carré de Chambon was educated by the Jesuits and took holy orders, serving as a chaplain in the French navy. He came to the notice of Colbert, who sent him on a mission to India in 1672 to report on the activities of the French East India Company.
