De Sacro Foedere In Selimum Libri Quattuor...

Description

This is in essence a history of the Sacra Lega. Book I deals with the siege of Nicosia and diplomatic activities in Europe, especially those dealing with the formation of the Holy League. It includes an account of the conflict between Andrea Doria and Marc’Antonio Colonna, which resulted in the return of the fleet sent to help Cyprus. Book II describes the taking of Famagusta by the Turks. Book III is concerned with the Sacra Lega or the alliance of Venice, the Pope Pius V and Spain against the Ottoman threat. Book IV describes the seizure of Methoni and Navarino in the Morea. There are additional sections on the Turkish attacks in North Africa, including those on Jerba, Oran, and Pignon de Velez. There is also an account of the siege of Malta in 1565.
