A ‘Nouvelle Édition’, published in 1792. This is the third edition chronologically, but it must be a piracy. There is no imprint: the name of the publisher and place of publication are not present.
The scholar, philosopher and political theorist Volney, whose family name was Chasseboeuf, took his name from the first syllable of ‘Voltaire’ and the second of ‘Ferney’. After his studies Volney decided to travel in the Levant. His Voyage, which is not an account of his travels, but the sum of his observations, was published in 1787. It achieved a tremendous success. English, German, Italian and Spanish translations were quickly produced. The work continued to appear into the 19th century.
