Description

Pococke travelled in September 1737 to the Levant, where he spent three years, much of this time in Egypt. In the autumn of 1738 he spent two months in Cyprus. The description of Cyprus is in part 1 of volume II (pp. 209-235) and includes a map (pl. XXXI, engraved by Thomas Jefferys) on which Pococke recorded the route he followed in his exploration of the island. He also published plans of ancient Citium and Salamis, whose ruins he visited.
